Halloween festival: Secrets that have never been "revealed"

Have you ever wondered how Halloween was born and why people decorate it in such a "horror" style? If yes, then learn about Halloween right away.

Customs on Halloween

Children on Halloween will perform "Trick Or Treat". In it, "Trick" means: fool, naughty ghost game. And "Treat" is welcoming, kind treatment, hospitality.

Children will dress up with devil masks and then go to each house holding lanterns, knock on the door and say: "trick or treat." This means, “If you want us to not play bad, treat us to something.”

Usually, homeowners who want to avoid "tricking" means playing tricks, so they often treat them with candy and fruit (according to the custom with coins inside).

History of Halloween

In Irish legend, there is a young man named Jack. One day, a demon came to disturb a residential area and was "covered" by the monks. When the demon was captured, Jack realized that it was the demon who played with him, so he tried to remove the "devil" to open the way for the demon to escape.

In return for saving his life, the devil promised Jack that he would not take Jack's soul to hell. When Jack died, heaven did not let him in because in life Jack was a greedy, stingy, miserly person.

Hell also didn't open the door for Jack because of the promise the devil had made to him. Seeing Jack wandering around, the demon took some embers from hell, put a pumpkin inside and gave it to Jack to warm up.

On the way back to earth, to let the air in to feed the fire, Jack punctured the pumpkin. And that image has become familiar in the Halloween holidays.

Where did Halloween come from?

Halloween has its roots in the Celts, who lived more than 2,000 years ago in the lands of what is now Great Britain and northern France. The Celts begin the new year on November 1 of the solar calendar.

A festival held on the eve of the new year in honor of the late leader Samhain. On this holiday, the Celts believed that Samhain allowed the souls of the dead to return home on earth that night.

Later, Halloween came to America due to immigrants from England and some areas of the Celts. They brought many customs to America, including Halloween.

Meaning of Halloween

Jack's life became a lesson for young people. That is not to live greedy and stingy lives, but to know how to help those in need.

The second educational meaning is not to play with the devil. Demons here are understood figuratively to mean tricks, threats, affecting others, families and the whole society.

In addition to the above educational meaning, Halloween also has a human meaning. It is on this day that wandering, wandering souls like Jack can return to the underworld and have fun with humans, then also disguised as demons. As can be seen, the meaning of Halloween is similar to the full moon day of the seventh lunar month in our country. That is when the two realms of Yin and Yang are reunited.
